Name that song
The iPod Nano’s have a great, yet extremely simple, music quiz supplied with them. Unfortunately, Apple didn’t supply an app of a similar type for the iPhone and iPod Touch, so it’s a little galling that it’s now necessary to pay for one.
Thankfully Name that song, priced at $1.99 / £1.19, builds on the bare bones of the original Apple music quiz and developer Stéphane Lecorney has dramatically improved the graphics, though anything makes the drab black and white interface appear better. The app works on the exactly same principle and is a highy polished affair.
Name that song has three difficult levels as well as a two-player option. The quiz retrieves tracks from your iPod playlist and provides multiple choice answers scored by hox quickly you name the right song.
However, the app is certainly not without its drawbacks. For instance, having unnamed tracks renders the answers a little pointless: e.g. having a number of tracks named track 1 plays havoc witht the multiple choice answers. Another problem is that the app plays just the introduction of the track, every time, with the beginning of songs often being the hardest to distinguish.
For the price I was expecting a little more, but there are enough modes included that will provide a fair while of entertainment, provided you have a well-ordered playlist.
